How to get a police clearance in Oman

A police clearance or certificate is an official document issued as a result of a background check by the police or government agency of a country to enumerate any criminal records that the applicant may have. Criminal records may include arrest, conviction, and possibly criminal proceedings. A police clearance is also known as good citizen certificate (in Hong Kong), good conduct certificate, police clearance certificate, national police history check (in Australia) or judicial record extracts.

This certificate is issued to the Omani citizen and resident foreign nationals presently or previously residing in the Sultanate for the following purposes:

  • Practicing commercial business outside the Sultanate
  • Obtaining entry visas for certain countries
  • Immigration to other countries
  • Working as tourists guide
  • Joining the University
  • Other similar purposes

Requirements For The Issue Of The Certificate

For Omanis:

  • Filled application form
  • Copy of the passport or the Identity Card
  • Two Photographs (4 x 4)
  • Payment of the specified fees of RO 3.000

For Resident Expatriate:

  • Filled application form
  • Copy of the Passport
  • Two Photographs (4 x 4)
  • Fingerprints
  • Payment of the specified fees of RO 20.000

For Foreigners Staying Outside The Sultanate:

  • A letter from the applicant, indicating their name and mail address.
  • Two photographs (4 x 4)
  • Copy of the passport including the pages containing the previous residence stamp during the applicant’s residence in Oman and current passport .
  • The amount to be credited should be (US $56.00) equivalent to (RO 21.500) Omani Reyal (Not Cheque \ Draft , Certificate and Postage charges).The fee transfer is to the Directorate General of Inquires and Criminal Investigations’ account no. 3106-453888-500, Oman Arab Bank, Qurum Branch, swift code (OMABOMRU).
  • Submit by express mail confirmation of the depositing together with the application to the Director of Criminal Evidence, Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations, Royal Oman Police, P.O BOX , 446 Muscat ,113 Sultanate of Oman.
