OWWA Receives Over 30,000 Scholarship Applications for Academic Year 2025–2026

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has announced the total number of applicants for its flagship scholarship programs for Academic Year 2025–2026, marking another strong show of interest from the children and dependents of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) seeking access to quality education.

In a recent update posted on its official Facebook page, OWWA revealed that more than 30,000 applications have been submitted under three major scholarship categories:

  • Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP – Category 1): 8,600 applicants
  • OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP – Category 1): 13,667 applicants
  • OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP – Category 2): 8,522 applicants

These figures reflect the high demand for financial assistance among OFW families as they strive to send their children to college or university, especially amid the rising costs of education.

Supporting the Dreams of Filipino Youth

OWWA expressed its gratitude to all the young Filipinos who have applied for the scholarship programs, commending their drive to pursue academic excellence and secure a better future.

“Lubos kaming nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng ating mga kabataang aplikante na nagnanais makamit ang kanilang mga pangarap sa pamamagitan ng edukasyon,” the agency stated in its post.

OWWA continues to position itself as a key partner in nation-building by supporting the educational aspirations of OFW dependents. Through its scholarship programs, the agency aims to empower the next generation with knowledge and skills that can uplift their families and contribute to national development.

Overview of OWWA Scholarship Programs

  1. Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP):
This merit-based scholarship is awarded to qualified OFW dependents who excel academically. It covers financial assistance for a four- or five-year baccalaureate course in any college or university.
  2. OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP):
This scholarship is designed for qualified dependents of OFWs whose monthly salary does not exceed US$600. The ODSP offers financial aid to help cover tuition fees and other school-related expenses.

Each year, these programs provide thousands of Filipino students with opportunities to pursue higher education without putting additional financial strain on their families.

What’s Next?

Applicants are encouraged to stay tuned to the official OWWA Facebook page for updates regarding screening, results, and the next steps in the selection process.

The large number of applicants serves as a testament to the trust OFW families place in OWWA’s support, and highlights the continuing need for programs that bridge the gap between ambition and access to education.

As the academic year approaches, OWWA reiterates its commitment to empowering Filipino youth—one scholar at a time.
