Oman Air and SalamAir Cancel Flight Operations to Pakistan

Four Oman Air flights to Pakistan on Thursday have been cancelled after the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Pakistan announced the closure of airspace for commercial flights on Wednesday.

“Four of Oman Air flights to Pakistan have been cancelled due to Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority’s announcement. We had two flights to Karachi, one to Lahore and another one to Islamabad on Thursday,” – an official from Oman Air.

In a statement, Oman Air said, “All guests are requested to contact Oman Air city offices or Oman Air call centre on +968 2453 1111 for further information. Oman Air’s primary concern is and has always been the safety and well-being of its passengers and crew.”

Oman’s low-cost carrier SalamAir too said that its flights to Karachi, Multan and Sialkot will not be operated till further notice.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has also tweeted that its flights may be affected due to this. It said, “Attention! As a precautionary measure, PIA flights may be affected due to the closure of Pakistan Commercial Air Space.”

According to sources, all airlines have been informed that the airspace will remain closed until Thursday midnight.

PIA officials in Muscat were not available for comments.

Meanwhile, in view of the events in Jammu and Kashmir, Oman’s Embassy in New Delhi, urged citizens not to travel to the region until the situation stabilises.
