Good news for travelers! Extension cords and power strips allowed in carry-on luggage

Air passengers can now bring extension cords and power strips in their carry-on luggage, the Office for Transportation Security announced Thursday.

To address passenger complaints on the carriage of extension cord and/or power strip, the OTS wishes to inform the public that EXTENSION CORD and/or POWER STRIP shall be ALLOWED in carry-on bag pending review of the OTS Prohibited Items List, effective May 15, 2024.

OTS strives to improve its policies to provide balance between security and passenger convenience in line with Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista’s guidance to provide a comfortable, accessible, safe, sustainable, affordable, and seamless travel for all.

Extension cords were previously required to be checked in when traveling by plane.

Other items that are not allowed in carry-on baggage are firearms, objects with sharp points and edges, worker tools, blunt instruments, chemicals, liquids in containers exceeding 100 ml, and toxic substances.
