A 40-year-old Filipino household worker in Saudi Arabia has committed suicide, the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah said on Friday.
In a report to the Home Office in Manila, Consul General Edgar Badajos said the deceased domestic worker, a separated mother of two, allegedly hanged herself on Wednesday at her employer’s residence in Jizan Province, about 600 kilometers south of Jeddah.
Badajos said a consular team is now in Jizan to gather additional information on the circumstances behind the death of the Filipina worker.
The consulate is already in touch with the family and assured them of assistance in repatriating the remains as soon as possible.
This latest incident occurred almost on the same day when an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was shot and killed after allegedly stabbing to death his Saudi manager and a Pakistani co-worker on an island some 50 kilometers off Jizan.
Several other co-workers who tried to intervene were also hurt in the incident.
Responding security guards of the company shot and killed the OFW who allegedly run amuck.
